Front vs Rear IP Rating
Outdoor LED cabinets typically have different IP ratings for front and rear faces. The front face (viewing face) is the primary weather barrier and is rated IP65. The rear face houses ventilation for thermal management and is typically rated IP54 — protected against water splashes but not direct jets. This asymmetric rating is sufficient for most outdoor installations where the display is mounted against a wall or structure.
Never specify an IP20 indoor display for a semi-outdoor location such as a covered atrium, under a canopy, or near a water feature. Even controlled splash will cause catastrophic damage to unprotected electronics.
